What’s new this year?
This year’s theme – Agents of Change: Counselling in a Wired World -- marks a distinctly modern approach to our profession. How to adapt our work to a fast-changing society, and how to take advantage of modern technology in helping young people, are themes in several of our workshops. Our keynote speaker, Tod Maffin, is an authority on how technology and society interact.
Our workshop lineup is innovative and especially strong this year. It includes sessions on garden therapy, strengthening attention in children, preparing teens for post-school success, apps for combatting anxiety, using social media to battle bullying, self-regulation, phototherapy, legal/ethical issues, youth as peer helpers in mental health and suicide prevention, what school counsellors need to know about the new Family Law Act -- and about two dozen more topics of interest to us professionals. Please check out our varied menu of presentations, and make plans to join us in October for our yearly gathering of British Columbia’s dedicated and hard-working school counsellors.
